1 · Opening Rules

Opening Policy

The NTHU Observatory accepts group visits for the purpose of astronomical science education and public outreach. A maximum of 2 groups per month (1 group per day), by appointment only. Priority is given to educational institutions. The same organization may visit a maximum of 2 times per year.

Eligibility

Non-profit organizations and schools with a genuine interest in astronomy. Groups of 10–25 people per visit. For groups larger than 25, please contact us or apply in separate sessions. Individual applications are not accepted.

Available Time Slots

Hours are determined each semester and announced at the start of term. Summer and winter breaks require separate coordination.

Afternoon

13:30 – 17:30

Evening

19:00 – 22:00

Visit Duration

Maximum 1 hour. The route and accessible areas are determined by on-site staff. Please maintain a low volume as the observatory is located in a teaching facility.

2 · How to Apply

Application Deadline

Apply by the 15th of the month prior to your intended visit. For example, to visit in October, apply by September 15th. Submit the registration form linked in the sidebar.

Approval

Applications are reviewed and approved by the NTHU Observatory Management Team (Institute of Astronomy, NTHU). You will be notified of the result.

3 · Important Notes

  • 1.

    If you cannot attend after confirmation, notify us at least one week before the scheduled date via nthuobs@gmail.com. Failure to do so may result in the organization being ineligible for future applications.

  • 2.

    The observatory reserves the right to reschedule visits in the event of typhoons, natural disasters, or emergencies.

  • 3.

    Visitors must follow the directions of observatory staff at all times. Those who do not comply may be asked to leave.

  • 4.

    The applicant (group leader) is responsible for the safety of all group members. The observatory is not liable for any incidents during the visit.

  • 5.

    For elementary school groups: students must be Grade 3 or above, and at least 2 teachers must accompany the group.

  • 6.

    These rules are effective from the date of publication and are subject to revision.

5 · Transportation

By Car

National Highway 1 (中山高速公路)

Take the Hsinchu System interchange, exit at Guangfu Rd. Head toward the city, turn left onto Guangfu Rd., and continue 3–5 minutes to the main gate.

National Highway 3 (北二高)

Exit at Zhudong / Qionglin, follow signs toward Hsinchu Science Park, continue approximately 30 minutes to Guangfu Rd., then turn right.

By Public Transport

Train

Alight at Hsinchu Station (front exit). Walk between SOGO and Eslite, take Bus No. 1, 2, or 1A (NT$15) — approximately 15–20 minutes to campus.

Long-distance Bus

Alight near the Guangfu Rd. exit and walk or take a local bus 5–10 minutes to campus.
