About
A benchmark in Taiwan's astronomical education
The NTHU Observatory was established in 1971 when Professor Qiu Hongyi led a group of students in handcrafting telescopes from scratch. Today it houses the largest refracting telescope in Taiwan — a 25 cm refractor — and continues its mission of education and public outreach.
Located on the 8th floor of the Physics Building at National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, the observatory offers guided visits, public open days, and real-time weather monitoring for observation planning.

What we offer
Guided Visits
Group visits for educational institutions. 10–25 people per group, by appointment, one month in advance.
Public Open Days
Occasional open days where the public can explore the observatory and interact with our telescopes.
Weather Monitoring
Real-time sky conditions from our all-sky camera and weather station for observation planning.
Astronomical Education
Supporting astronomy education at NTHU and serving as a benchmark for Taiwan's public outreach.
Observation Sessions
Regular sessions using our 25 cm refractor, 16-inch Cassegrain, and Celestron 8 telescopes.

Bring your group to the observatory
We welcome educational institutions and non-profit organizations for guided visits. Groups of 10–25 people, by appointment only. Apply at least one month in advance.
